The 1540nm non-ablative laser is an excellent device to treat acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and sun damage and is safe to use on all skin types. Non-ablative means that this laser does not make holes in your skin, but instead it makes micro-zones of heat to tighten and smooth skin. This allows for significantly less down time with the usual trade off of more treatments compared to ablative laser resurfacing.
Generally Dr. Buster recommends 3 to 6 sessions—sometimes more or less depending on you skin needs. Treatments are spaced anywhere from every 2 to 6 weeks with the average being every 4 weeks. Your collagen remodeling occurs over 3 to 6 months so full results are seen after that period of time.
Laser resurfacing can be combined with intense pulse light (IPL) to address brown spots, red areas/blood vessels, fine lines and wrinkles all in one. This treatment is sometimes called Three for Me as it includes three layers of treatment: IPL, a superficial laser (XF), and a deeper laser (XD) for a fully rejuvenative treatment. Dr. Buster typically recommends between 1-3 sessions to achieve desired results.
